ABSTRACT PAINTING
Learning some information about this Russian painter:
He was born on 16 December 1866 in Moscow, Russia
and died on 13 December 1944 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France.
He enrolled at Moscow State University, where he studied law and economics, after which he began to practise his profession successfully and was even offered a post as a professor of Roman law at Dorpat University. However, he decided to begin studying painting when he was 30 years old. In 1896 he settled in Munich, Germany, He returned to Moscow in 1914, after the outbreak of the First World War. After the Russian Revolution he helped found the Museum of the Culture of Painting.Then he returned back to Germany in 1920. There he taught at the Bauhaus School of Art and Architecture from 1922 until it was closed by the Nazis in 1933. He then moved to France, where he lived for the rest of his life and where he acquired French citizenship in 1939.
