Who was Francisco Asorey? Some information about him
Francisco Asorey was born on 4th March 1889 in Fefiñáns, Cambados (Pontevedra).He was a teacher drawing in Barakaldo, Biskaia, and in Madrid he started his first artistic works.
At the age of 29 he moved to Santiago de Compostela where he worked as an anatomical sculptor in the Faculty of Medicine. In Santiago de Compostela he set up a sculpture workshop, in the convent of San Domingos de Bonaval, and from there his first works in polychrome wood came out: Picariña, Naiciña... In San Francisco, he won the Medal of the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. In 1930 he moved his workshop to the Santa Clara street in Santiago de Compostela and there he made the great monuments in granite: the aviator Joaquín Loriga, the poet Curros Enríquez, the astronomer Ramón Aller...He died on July 2nd, 1961. He was buried in the Pantheon of Illustrious Galicians, in San Domingos de Bonaval, in the city of Santiago de Compostela.
