MARUJA MALLO

On 8 March we celebrate the day of the working woman, so we will get to know the figure of the artist from Lugo Maruja Mallo, the free woman who painted unique universes.

Maruja Mallo, Ana María Gómez González, was born in Vivero 05.01.1902 and died in Madrid 06.02.1995. She was a Spanish surrealist painter and is considered to be an artist of the Generation of '27 within the so-called Spanish interior avant-garde.
( Both her brother and she decided to adopt her father's second surname as her stage name, Mallo.)

Therefore, we will be working on one of his most famous paintings:

PAUL KLEE

Paul Klee (Münchenbuchsee, 18 December 1879 - Muralto, 29 June 1940) was a Swiss-born German painter, whose style varied between surrealism, expressionism and abstraction.

Paul Klee and  colour

Throughout his life, Paul Klee used colour in a variety of unique ways and maintained a relationship with it that progressed over time. For an artist who loved nature so much, it seems strange that in his early days Klee disdained colour, believing it to be nothing more than decoration.

In time Klee changed his mind and came to manipulate colour with such precision and passion that he ended up teaching colour theory and colour mixing at the Bauhaus School. This progression in itself is of great importance because it enabled him to write about colour with an eye unique among his contemporaries.

Tasks to do:
1 ) Look for information about Paul Klee to know this famous painter and his painting.

2) Make your own version of the painting entitled ''Flora in the sand'' with wax paints.

Remember  to draw squares and rectangles of different sizes, first in pencil and then colour them in with markers to create your own version.

3) Starting with Paul Klee's painting Blau Mantel 1940, also called Blue Dog,

create your own drawing with a blue spot.
